Policies typically will not cover normal wear and tear. However, Markel’s consequential damage coverage protects your boat if it is damaged by a fire, explosion, sinking, collision or stranding.

Additionally , if you purchase Markel’s optional ultimate drive coverage, your boat will be protected should a mechanical breakdown occur due to wear and tear or defect of the outboard or sterndrive.

Can I still insure my boat if it’s in a corporation’s name?

Yes. Boat insurance from Markel will cover corporately titled boats for both client entertainment and personal use. Markel requires that all corporately titled boats appoint a designee of the watercraft.

No. Markel knows waterskiing is one of the main reasons people buy boats, so you will not be charged extra for it.

What types of fishing equipment are covered?

Your personal effects coverage may automatically cover your rods, reels, and tackle, up to the limit purchased. If more coverage is needed, Markel’s fishing equipment coverage provides protection at replacement cost. Please call our agency to find out more.

Does my boat need to be insured during the winter?

Because your boat could be at risk for damages during all times of the year, including when it's not on the water, you may want to consider year round coverage. For example, if your boat is damaged while it’s being stored in the winter, you will need an active insurance policy to file a claim.
